Danny Bae - Living the American Dream
Korean native looking for opportunity in a new land, now … ACN VP of Asia Sales
As a child, Danny Bae's family moved to the United States from Seoul, Korea, in search of a better way of life. They settled in Las Vegas near other relatives. But Danny did not enjoy living there at first and refused to learn English for many years. He became known as the "'Hello' man," as it was the only English word he knew.
Danny began working at age 15 but grew frustrated with living paycheck to paycheck. While attending college and working in a coffee shop for $8.50 an hour, he realized he was in a dead-end job that would never pay him what he was worth. That's when he was approached about the ACN Opportunity and he discovered a way to change his life.
"When I first got introduced to direct selling, the first presentation I saw, I didn't speak English and I didn't really understand what was going on. However, I understood all the numbers. Because the numbers made sense, I got started," he said. "I went through many presentations and trainings without understanding. But after being involved and having great mentors and support, we’ve been able to have success."
In addition to growing a larger English vocabulary with his ACN business, his dreams grew as well. Initially, he just wanted a fancy car. Today, he has five cars and has retired his parents from their dry cleaning business.
"I told my parents if they ever think about working, I'm not going to give them a check anymore," Danny said. "Now they drive a Mercedes and live in a nice house. I call my mom at 2 or 3 in the afternoon and ask her what she is doing, and she says, 'You told me to watch TV, so I am watching TV.' That is probably the most rewarding thing we have been able to do through ACN."
He and wife Yun Jung frequently travel to their favorite vacation spot in Hawaii and they dream of helping struggling relatives who still live in Korea. In addition, they would like to build a recreation center for the Korean-American community in Las Vegas and support the building program at their church.
Danny credits his no-quit attitude to his success, something he tells new representatives. "All we have to do is go out there, keep our eyes focused and put one foot in front of the other," he said. "And don’t let anyone determine how you are going to act or how your attitude is going to be."
